watercolor. 2021. 11"X15".
The first image I painted for this series was also a horse; however, it was what inspired me to paint this series and I hadn't really worked out the theme yet. It never really felt like it fit fully with the others. So, I decided to do another horse! My reference images are mostly from photographs I have taken out in Easter Oregon on the Hart Mountain Antelope Wildlife Refuge. This is a place of my childhood and a landscape I am always craving to visit. Among other wildlife - Grouse and Antelope to name a few - it is home to many Mustangs and a BLM roundup location. The mandala piece is inspired by petroglyphs at Petroglyph Lake, also on the refuge.
